We love it when our community and industry partners come to class! Allied Mechanical Services and 43Forty Fabrication visited the welding program this past February. Four employees took the time to educate students about the company and about their apprenticeship program. They also stayed to work alongside them and offer pointers. One of the employees was a former welding student and graduate of Otsego, Ethan Thrasher (pictured on the left in the photo with the two gentleman).

For 'March is Reading Month,' we once again had students volunteer to read in 5th grade classrooms across the county. The students were given Tech Center pencils and stickers designed and printed by our own Graphic Art & Design students! The Skilled to Build Michigan Foundation donated two books to each classroom that we were able to provide: "Billy the Builder Bear Builds a House" and "Catie the Contractor Leads the Crew."
We are thankful for our volunteers! "Community On Deck for Education," known as C.O.D.E. Orange, is an event sponsored by the Educational Foundation of APS to generate school spirit and help support education in Allegan. Each year, the Tech Center's Graphic Art and Design program works with the foundation as part of their community service project and creates hundreds of designs. The students present their work in front of the client with PowerPoint. This year's winning design is pictured here and was created by Madi Dendel, a junior at Otsego High School.

Congratulations to Greyson Imus for his acceptance to KVCC! Greyson is an Otsego senior and our student spotlight for the Pathways to Success program. This fall, Greyson will be channeling his passion for culinary arts and creativity into his studies, marking the beginning of an exciting chapter in his pursuit of excellence in the culinary world.

It was a beautiful morning for a ground breaking ceremony. Thank you to everyone that participated and attended today's groundbreaking of the new Auto Tech building.

Multiple Graphic Art and Design students participated in designing t-shirts for the Wayland Union Band. Two student designs were chosen: John Cork, a Plainwell senior and second-year work-based learning student, and Mason Shirey, a junior from Plainwell who is in the first year of the program. The students earned a gift card from the client!
John's Design: gray with green wildcat. Mason's Design: black with paw print.

In our student spotlight, Pathways to Success is proud to feature Fennville student Valeria Ramirez, who will be attending Grand Rapids Community College this fall to embark on her journey towards a business degree. Valeria's dedication and ambition set the stage for her future success in the world of business.

"When you have a student show up on his day off and wants to shingle in the rain, I guess you have to join him." Student is Hopkins High School senior, Nolan Wood, on the roof of the student-build home with Andy Findling, Building Trades 2 instructor.

Pathways to Success would like to spotlight Samantha Robinson, a dedicated senior at Otsego High School. This fall of 2024, she will be attending KVCC to pursue her passion for animals and become a vet technician, showcasing her commitment to the field of veterinary care.

Last evening, the AIS Heavy Equipment program held its second annual open house. The instructor started this last year as the program is not located on our main campus, and he saw a need to get visitors to the off-site building. Four industry partners set up tables of information to showcase what they have to offer the youth coming into the industry: AIS Construction, Walinga's, Zeigler Auto Group, and Green Mark. Swag was given away, Green Mark brought a new tractor, and Zeigler brought a new Ram diesel truck. A total of 93 people were in attendance, including many younger kids that we hope will turn into future students!
This was not only a great event for current students to bring their families to highlight the projects they have been working on, but it was also great for employers to talk with students about the opportunities that are available to them. We are already looking forward to the next one!

The Tech Center held a design contest for our latest t-shirts and Navaya Ingle of Hopkins High School was the winner! Designs went through a committee and then students and staff voted from seven designs!
These t-shirts are available in black and white and are $7 - available in the Tech Center office!
